Nicky James so far..……
The daughter of architect, fisherman and birdwatcher, my father, Nick; and nursery school teacher, baker and gardener, my mother, Do.
Music and History graduate…. respectable pianist …. poor violinist.
TV and Film Location Manager of 20 years…. Dr Who, Sherlock, Torchwood, Upstairs Downstairs, Gavin & Stacey and recently films ‘Six Minutes to Midnight’ and ‘Dream Horse’. Always searching for that perfect location – especially with an interior where furniture is part of the story, be it period or contemporary….. and my passion towards the subject has led to it becoming a new chapter in my life.
In this country we are able to buy furniture which has been made by the most skilled craftspeople and the finest wood. The current trend in home furnishing however looks for an already painted patina particularly from abroad, alongside fitted or free standing pieces of laminate over particle boarding with a questionable lifespan and a high carbon foot print. Sliced bread and instant coffee have a place in life. Disposable underwear works well for babies but not great on the catwalk and definitely not in the bedroom!
It is only real antique lovers and skilful investors with confidence in this market who still buy the best pieces but this is a fraction of the antique furniture story.

During the last twelve months most of us have had an opportunity to reflect on and reassess our role in life. For me, while I continue to work with the finest set designers, directors and producers, my passion for furniture becomes the new script. Some pieces will present themselves in their original character, while others appear with artistic licence – but always expressing quality and character.
A beautiful piece of furniture is a piece of performing art for your home.
